BMS Company is pleased to offer expanded and enhanced product development capabilities to our offered services. Our years of experience in the injection molding industry combined with our mechanical design experience and tool and die making allow us the unique capability to benefit our customers in this regard. 

We have recently acquired additional equipment and software that allow us to enhance our product development bring your new product from inception to production with a continuous and uniform sourcing of your project for best synergy between the creator of the product and the services needed to bring that product successfully to market.

This is a list of the processes utilized by BMS Company in Cranesville to provide these services;

  1. Solidworks 3D Parametric Design Software-  allows us to convert your idea whether it be on a scrap of paper or just a concept in mind and bring it to life as a 3D mathmatical model.​
  2. The Cad model after review, is then prepared for 3D printing. BMS Company has three 3d printers on site. Two FDM printers with build volume up to 12 x 12 x 13, and one SLA printer with build volume of 6 x 7 x 7. Utilizing our printers we can produce sample parts in as little as 24 hours, with several resin or filament types available. On the FDM printers we can print parts in actual plastic resin such as ABS, Nylon, PETG, and many others. Our SLA printer can produce PP like parts that are so similar to actual PP molded parts that you won't know the difference. Rather than waiting several days to send the STL files to a 3D printing house and waiting for days or weeks for parts, we can have your parts printed the same day, ready for review and testing. This gives BMS Company and our customers very quick results so that changes or adjustments can be made quickly to keep your project on time. All our 3d printers can attain 25 micron resolution which yields smooth parts with accurate detail clearly visible. Even Logos or artwork are clearly printed so that the parts we print will look nearly identical to your eventual injection molded parts.
  3. Once the printed models have been finalized, we are ready to begin building tooling to provide injection molded sample parts for validation, testing, and pre-sales marketing. Here at BMS we offer several different types of tooling for your project and which type of tooling we will recommend for your product depends upon the confidence that the customer has in the product, the tooling budget available for the project, the complexity of the molded parts and the longevity desired from the tooling. Here are some of the tooling types offered by BMS Company;
    • ​​Rapid SLA Tooling- The fastest and least expensive, using SLA printed cavities and cores to fit our standard tooling units. The SLA tooling is finished and polished, then has copper and hard nickel plating applied at .003" thickness to add surface toughness to the printed resin tooling. These tooling sets have a very limited longevity because the shutoffs and mechanical actions tend to break down but typically 12 to 200 pieces can be produced on this tooling again depending upon part and tool complexity. Part accuracy is typically plus or minus .002" 
    • Rapid Aluminum Tooling- A little higher priced, but better longevity and part accuracy at plus or minus .001". This tooling can be manufactured to fit our standard units if possible, or they can be built as MUD units, Roundmates, or discreet injection molds as required.
    • Urethane Tooling- This is yet another low cost, rapid method of producing parts that are very similar to injection molded resins, but are actually investment cast in epoxy tools and urethane is injected into the epoxy tools to produce parts. This is an excellent choice for parts where SLA models cannot be printed in a material close enough to the injection resin, but where one of the urethane grades may produce acceptable parts for testing and approval. The longevity of urethane tooling is very short and part accuracy is not as good as the other tooling methods available, but it is suitable for many projects.
    • ​SPI/SPE Class 104 Tooling- For those projects requiring greater longevity and where an injection process is required, BMS offers the Class 104 tooling.  A Class 104 mold is a low-production mold. It is used for limited production, primarily with non-abrasive materials. It has a low to moderate price range. Class 104 molds are limited to fewer than 100,000 cycles. The mold base can be mild steel or aluminum. Cavities can be made of aluminum, mild steel or any other material that is agreed upon by BMS and the customer. These can be manufactured as MUD units, Roundmates, or discreet injection molds as required.
    • Production Quality Single Cavity Mold-  The best quality, accuracy and longevity offered by BMS for product development. They use the same construction methods and design concepts that the production mold will eventually use so that the molded parts are perfect examples of those that the full production mold will yield. Using production quality molds allows for very fast turn around of usually 4 – 8 weeks depending upon our shop workload and the complexity of the molded part. It allows for faster less costly molded part modifications to be completed as only one cavity needs to be adjusted rather than numerous cavities in a full production mold. It also allows the customer to evaluate their product, complete measurement, usability and marketing tests and evaluations, and even provides startup quantities of finished parts to establish robotics, stamping, filling or other post mold activities.
  4. When the tooling has been completed, it is time to injection mold some parts. Any tooling that requires MUD or Roundmate Units or any discreet molds, Class 104 or Production Quality molds when completed can be molded at one of several injection molders in close proximity to BMS Company that we have worked with for many years. Many of our customers prefer to run their prototype tooling in their own plant or facility which is another option that we accomodate.
